He was supposed to have the day off. That didn't quite happen.

His phone woke up him at nine, and on the other end was his distraught mother. A pipe in his parents' basement had burst, and even though Davin is a mechanic and not a plumber, he was the one she called. Funny how she refuses to acknowledge his magic until she needs to take advantage of it.

His dad's out of town on business, so it was up to Davin to calm his mother and keep the basement from his childhood home from flooding. He sat his mother down on the sofa and turned off the water before heading down to the basement with his tools. He was able to use his magic to cut through the ruined section of pipe and hold up the new one so he could solder it in place, and then he cleaned up the basement as best he could.

He emerged hours later, wet and dirty and in a lousy mood, and his mother demanded he stay for tea before he could leave.

Now he's freshly showered, hair still a little damp at the ends as it sticks up everywhere, and he's wandering through the town's main drag as he tries to decide how to spend his evening. Beer will make an appearance at some point, surely.

He's weighing the pros and cons of pub food when someone brushes by him, and a streetlight glints off of some metal sliding out of the person's pocket. Davin stares at the keys as they fall and wills them to stop mid-air, holding out his hand and sending the keys flying through the air to land gently in his palm.

"Excuse me," he calls out, his Irish accent a little thicker due to his exhaustion. He shakes the keys out, peering out to try and see if he recognizes the person. "I think you dropped these."

[Come meet Davin! He's lived in Siren Cove since he was a kid, so if your character has been around for awhile they may recognize him. All his info is here, but the bullet points are: 22 year old gay Irish witch/mechanic who just wants a damn beer.]

"Sorry, I swear."

This is why Luke doesn't do anything else but work and create. "In Cali, Shelly would app me pointers so I could prepare myself before screwing up", he offers with a sheepish grin. "Any social happening, in a way it was really convenient."

"You sure are lucky yer cute." He laughs and rests his elbow on the table, propping his chin in his hand and looking at him. "Not that I'm a social savant, but I can try an' help."

Davin has been on dates ranging from successful to catastrophic, and he's good at talking to people. Maybe he can try and help the poor little lamb. He smiles to himself and then looks down at his menu.

"Davin, come on, shut up. Will you shut up if I start dishing out compliments?"

Luke doesn't need to look at the menu, instead greeting the waitress and slowly, well-articulated, offering his order. "It's not like I'm an order bride or something."

"Couldn't hurt." Davin's expression goes a little more serious and he furrows his brow as he looks down at his menu. His face is neutral and is tone is perfectly polite as he orders a salad, smiling a little at her as he hands over the menu.

Luke is an awful human being.

"You're funny. You're patient and very easy to be around with and I definitely understand why both men and women vie for your attention. I'm sure both Kim and I felt saved by your friendship during highschool and I'm grateful that I could pick it up when I returned here."

"..something like that?"

Davin wasn't serious, so when Luke starts speaking he nearly chokes on the water he's sipping. His cheeks are burning red and he sets down his glass. He laughs self-consciously, as he's never been good at receiving compliments.

"Thank you, Luke," he says warmly, without a trace of humor in his tone. That soon changes, and the playful smirk so familiar on his face returns. "But if this isn't a date, you might want to ease up on the sweet nothings."

"Okay, so we both are horrible human beings."

Luke gestures at the waitress. "Can you at least place an order?"

Davin laughs and orders a sandwich and a coffee with a pleasant smile before handing the menu over to the waitress. He looks around the restaurant and then props his chin in his hand, elbow on the table as he looks at his friend. "So what's up, man? Talk t'me."

"Eh. Well, I'm trying to get my parents out of our shitty old place because that needs to be torn down before it can be livable again but they refuse. They still think I'm ten and can't believe I have money now and can take care of them."

He frowns. "If you were talking about that."

"Yeah, I meant for you t'tell me what's on yer mind," Davin assures him with a nod. "And that must really be botherin' ya if you're cursin' about it."

He takes a sip of his water and sets the glass back down carefully, looking at Luke with concern. "I know a thing or two about stubborn, prideful parents. Most times, there's no changin' 'em."

Davin's tried. He assured them that it was okay for him to use magic, that he was trained well and he was safe. He told them that he was the same guy he was before they found out he liked guys, and it didn't matter. They're gonna think whatever they want. All Davin can do is take care of himself, at this point.

"Cur-" He huffs. "Oh yes, don't make me feel bad about that, please."

Luke rubs his face. "I've been looking at beach villas for them, some of the smaller ones. I just need an excuse to get them to go look at one, pretend I need the house for myself and Python or something ..anything to get them moving. Maybe a nurse, for my mom."

"I never want you t'feel bad about anything, Luke." He sighs and scrubs a hand over his face before looking back at him, swirling the straw in his water. "I hope it all works out for ya, truly. Thinkin' about getting a place of your own, then?"

"Oh."

He frowns. "Yes, I guess that means that. Or at least not with my parents any more. It's too weird, I don't want to be the kid anymore, you know?"

"Yeah, I get ya. Hell, I moved out right after graduation." Their food comes and Davin pulls his plate close, famished. He knows he'll probably hit up some fast food on his way home because this doesn't look like nearly enough, but it's good for now. "Your folks really care about you, though. You're lucky."

He takes a huge bite of his sandwich and (mostly) chews before swallowing. "But I get wantin' your own place."

"Where do you live now? Just asking out of curiosity, I'm not angling to become your room mate."

He smiles when he sees Davin attack the meal with his hands, while he's stabbing his fork left and right for the best combinations. "I know, I know I am. I just don't want to forget it out of frustration."

"I fixed up the apartment on top of Sweet Maddy's," Davin informs him, gesturing in the general direction of the south. "It's a decent place, but it needed some work. She gave me a really good deal in exchange for me helpin' her an' her husband out with some manual labor around their place an' the bakery. Also, free donuts and coffee, so I'm pretty much livin' the good life."

He takes another bite of his sandwich and then washes it down with his water. "Nah, ya won't forget. It'll all work out."

"That sounds nice. I really have to start looking up some recipes for donuts, donuts are always good."

Luke nods. "Thanks, man. You say it in such a way that makes me believe it."

"I'll happily be your tester," he offers. He smiles bright and warm at Luke, glad to be seen that way by his friend. "Well, that's 'cause I'm really smart an' everyone should just listen t'me always."

"Even if they're kind of healthy because there is no real butter in them?", Luke grins. "Made vegan-friendly, without any diary? Although I make an amazing raw chocolate cream, so I could fill them with those .."

He swats at him. "Thanks."

"I don't even think you vegans could fuck up a donut." He laughs warmly and takes another bite of his sandwich, enjoying it even without meat. He looks up at Luke with a warm smile and nods. "You're welcome, man. I'm happy t'share my vast wisdom."

"My mom would call you 'good people'. You could come over some time, if you want. Surprise her with how much taller you got", he adds with a wink.

"Yeah, sure," Davin agrees amiably. "Though I saw your mom not too long ago. I fixed a flat in her tire and she pinched my cheek when I refused to let her give me any money."

He winces. "Really? Oh geesh, she refuses to believe that any of us grew up, I think."

"Want more food to make that experience with a Nimes better?"

"I like your mom jus' fine," Davin tells him with a stern look. At least Luke's mom loves him for who he is, and treats him accordingly. "Can ya ever imagine my mom pinchin' yer cheeks and offerin' yo make you supper? I could stand a bit more motherin'."

".. she still not uh - agreeing?"

Sometimes Luke forgot that every house had its cross, and his inability to tell the truth wasn't the worst of them. "Does that mean you don't want more food?"
