He was supposed to have the day off. That didn't quite happen.
His phone woke up him at nine, and on the other end was his distraught mother. A pipe in his parents' basement had burst, and even though Davin is a mechanic and not a plumber, he was the one she called. Funny how she refuses to acknowledge his magic until she needs to take advantage of it.
His dad's out of town on business, so it was up to Davin to calm his mother and keep the basement from his childhood home from flooding. He sat his mother down on the sofa and turned off the water before heading down to the basement with his tools. He was able to use his magic to cut through the ruined section of pipe and hold up the new one so he could solder it in place, and then he cleaned up the basement as best he could.
He emerged hours later, wet and dirty and in a lousy mood, and his mother demanded he stay for tea before he could leave.
Now he's freshly showered, hair still a little damp at the ends as it sticks up everywhere, and he's wandering through the town's main drag as he tries to decide how to spend his evening. Beer will make an appearance at some point, surely.
He's weighing the pros and cons of pub food when someone brushes by him, and a streetlight glints off of some metal sliding out of the person's pocket. Davin stares at the keys as they fall and wills them to stop mid-air, holding out his hand and sending the keys flying through the air to land gently in his palm.
"Excuse me," he calls out, his Irish accent a little thicker due to his exhaustion. He shakes the keys out, peering out to try and see if he recognizes the person. "I think you dropped these."
[Come meet Davin! He's lived in Siren Cove since he was a kid, so if your character has been around for awhile they may recognize him. All his info is here, but the bullet points are: 22 year old gay Irish witch/mechanic who just wants a damn beer.]

"You're quite welcome, m'dear." He gives her a nod and a tired smile as he takes in her face. She's a rather beautiful girl, and with his sleepy mind he finds himself really wanting to touch the gentle curl of her fiery hair. It looks rather soft. He blinks a few times and meets her eyes, a little surprised by the concern she shows him.
"Oh, I'm just fine," he assures her, smiling softly. "Just had a tirin' day after a very long week, is all. I'm doin' me best to end it on a high note before I finally hit the hay."

"Oh, I need some food in me first, otherwise it won't be pretty for anyone." He laughs a little and tilts his head when she asks for his number. He's trying to find the nicest possible way to say that he isn't interested, at least not in dating her, but when he looks at her face again he sees only friendliness there. He breathes a soft sigh of relief and nods with a smile.
"Never gonna say no to somethin' sweet from a pretty girl." He gives her a playful smile and takes the notepad, writing his name and number down in his small, tidy script. "Name's Davin, by the way."
The social interaction has perked him up a little, dragging him out the bad mood that had him wanting to just go home and sleep it off. His eyes are a little brighter when he hands the notebook and pen back over.

She's still somewhat in teacher mode, having just left work, and the quirk of her eyebrow is clearly admonishing. "Do you have any particular favourites? I'll treat you. Its the least I can do for holding you up."

Davin is thinking about what a lovely name that is, and how much it suits her, until she's asking him if he's eaten and somehow he feels like he's just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar past bedtime. "Uh."
He grins sheepishly and runs his hand through his hair, shrugging a little and wrinkling his nose. "Nah, I sort of forgot. But you don't have to do that, really. It was no - "
She's still got that look on her face, one that makes Davin's mouth snap shut lest he get his knuckles slapped with a ruler. It's a weird (vaguely sexy, uh oh) feeling.
"I'm not picky," he relents, shrugging boyishly. "I was thinkin' burgers, 'cause they're easy."

He says it teasingly, because he doesn't mind it. She's a firecracker, and he finds that he likes her already.

"Bossy and a sweetheart," he says with a wink. She holds the door open and he takes it from her, ushering her inside with an exaggerated flourish before following her in. "You don't have to worry about me, I'll be fine. Just had a long week, 's all. A burger and some sleep will fix me right up."
He sits down across from her at a booth and smiles warmly at her as he pulls a menu towards him. "Making a new friend won't hurt either."

"So, what is it you do that made you so tired?"

"I'm a mechanic," he says as he peruses the menu, looking up to meet her gaze every so often. "Actually got promoted to head mechanic over at Seaside Auto a few months ago, and some of the older fellas who've been there for a long time got their panties all in a bunch 'cause of it. They're givin' me a hard time."
They're more mad because people keep requesting Davin specifically due to his growing reputation, and they make commission on top of their base salary. Davin's been doing big jobs all day on top of all the grunt work oil changes and tire rotations that they leave for him to do.
He makes his decision and sets the menu down on the table, rubbing his eyes for a moment before continuing. He's tired enough that his accent is rolling thick off of his tongue. "And I got lost in a Wikipedia black hole last night thinkin' I'd finally be able to sleep in today, but my ma called me early this mornin' to come over and do manual labor over at her place even though she hadn't spoken to me until the last time she needed somethin' from me."
He realizes that he's been rambling and venting to this near stranger and his cheeks go a little pink but hey, she asked, and she seemed genuinely curious.

She'd know something about that. As much as she's scolding Davin now, she's known to do just that on the regular. "You can't help anyone if you're in the hospital with exhaustion."

Davin listens to her speak and feels his expression morphing into something soft and fond, one corner of his mouth pulling up. It's nice to have someone fawn over him. It's not something that he often experiences. It's a good feeling.
"I'm not about to drop dead, I promise." He laughs and places his order for a bacon cheeseburger and a salad when the waitress comes by, and then turns his full attention back to Iris. "And there's no sense in rushin' through dinner with such a lovely companion."

He trails his fingertips through the condensation on his glass and smiles up at her. "What about yourself? I feel like I couldn't have gone too long without spottin' someone as gorgeous as you, not with that fiery mop of hair."

Iris chuckles and reaches up to touch the ends of her hair. It is pretty distinctive, she'll admit to that. "I've only been here a few months, myself. Originally from Greece, but I moved to Seattle to live with relatives after my parents passed when I was six."

"Thank you, m'dear. I actually recently met a girl who just moved here from Ireland. She makes me sound entirely generic." He chuckles to himself and then tilts his head to listen to her speak. His eyes go a bit soft and he reaches over to rest his fingers against the back of her hand for a moment. "I'm sorry to hear that."
He pats her hand and then pulls his hand back, resting his elbow on the table and propping his chin up in his palm as he looks at her. "So what brought you to our lovely cove?"

Davin listens to her speak with a smile on his face, surprised and warmed by her openness with a near stranger. It sounds like she's had a hard life, and she still seems warm and friendly and kind. Davin admires that about her.
"I'm happy to hear that, love." He smiles and then nods at the waitress when she brings their food, thanking her quietly before turning back to Iris. "It's quite the place. I came here because my parents moved us here, and even though I don't really get along with them, I've never thought about leavin'. It's me home."
He's tired enough that his voice is a little rough, accent gone thick and lazy, and he smiles at her while dumping the dressing onto his salad. He's enjoying this quiet moment with his new friend, because they're going to be friends, he can tell.

Davin takes a bite of her burger and looks at her with a more appraising eye when she mentions swimming, wondering if she might be a siren. She certainly is beautiful enough. God, Davin laughed his ass off when he found out that Siren Cove was full of actual sirens, because how on the nose is that?
"Aye, it is a nice place t'be if you fancy a swim." He sets his burger down and wipes his hands on a napkin before reaching for his drink. "I've never been to Seattle. Never been much of anywhere, really. If I ever manage t'scrape together some money for travelin', Ireland's where I go."
