He was supposed to have the day off. That didn't quite happen.
His phone woke up him at nine, and on the other end was his distraught mother. A pipe in his parents' basement had burst, and even though Davin is a mechanic and not a plumber, he was the one she called. Funny how she refuses to acknowledge his magic until she needs to take advantage of it.
His dad's out of town on business, so it was up to Davin to calm his mother and keep the basement from his childhood home from flooding. He sat his mother down on the sofa and turned off the water before heading down to the basement with his tools. He was able to use his magic to cut through the ruined section of pipe and hold up the new one so he could solder it in place, and then he cleaned up the basement as best he could.
He emerged hours later, wet and dirty and in a lousy mood, and his mother demanded he stay for tea before he could leave.
Now he's freshly showered, hair still a little damp at the ends as it sticks up everywhere, and he's wandering through the town's main drag as he tries to decide how to spend his evening. Beer will make an appearance at some point, surely.
He's weighing the pros and cons of pub food when someone brushes by him, and a streetlight glints off of some metal sliding out of the person's pocket. Davin stares at the keys as they fall and wills them to stop mid-air, holding out his hand and sending the keys flying through the air to land gently in his palm.
"Excuse me," he calls out, his Irish accent a little thicker due to his exhaustion. He shakes the keys out, peering out to try and see if he recognizes the person. "I think you dropped these."
[Come meet Davin! He's lived in Siren Cove since he was a kid, so if your character has been around for awhile they may recognize him. All his info is here, but the bullet points are: 22 year old gay Irish witch/mechanic who just wants a damn beer.]

"I'm sure ya have something t'offer," Davin says softly, looking over at her. "I don't need much."
He picks at his food and orders another beer, a pale ale this time, and rests his chin on his hand as he looks over at her. "You're already buyin' me a drink, ya said. And you gave me a massive ego boost, so I'd say we're square."

Lara huffed a quiet laugh and watched him. She wondered how much he knew about the supernatural community here. She didn't want to scare him but he'd been honest with her so easily, it felt only fair to do the same with him.
"Need and want are two very different things." She said. "Being a witch can be hard for anyone, even in a town like Siren Cove. It gets in the way sometimes. What do you want out of life?"

Davin is taking a sip from his new pint as she speaks and he pauses, slowly setting the glass down and licking the foam from his upper lip with a chuckle. "Kinda deep for lunch, aye?"
But he thinks about it, brow furrowed as he stares at his fingernails. He shrugs and looks up at her with a small smile. "Like I said, I don't need much. I just wanna be happy. Some days that seems easy, others not so much."

Lara nodded. "Well on the hard days, you're more than welcome to come and see me. Even if it's witch related and you don't think I'd understand." She reached out and laid her hand over his. Taking a breath she made sure he was watching and let her blue green smooth scales flow down her arm until her hand ended in talons that closed gently around his fingers. "I'd understand a lot more than you'd imagine."

Davin is just about to tell her how touched he is by her offer when he feels something move against his hand and looks down to see her skin changing color, shifting to scales. He blinks through the surprise of it and then looks up at her. He knows about sirens, even if he doesn't have much experience with them. He's not entirely surprised to learn that she is one.
"Thank you," Davin says sincerely. He puts his other hand on top of hers in a show of acceptance, thumb skirting lightly along her talons as he smiles warmly at her. "That means more than you know."

"You'e welcome." Lara said, squeezing his hand again before shifting back and tugging her hand away gently. "You might find you get a little more work from the supernatural community soon." She grinned. "My people trust their matriarchs opinion, so do a good job on my baby and you might even need to take on staff."
no subject
"Oh, wow. I won't let ya down." He scoffs and drags the tip of his finger through the condensation on his glass. "God, if only. I'd like to replace the staff I have now."

Lara nodded. "They're not being helpful at all, huh? Young bosses tend to have that effect." She smiled slyly. "At least when they don't have teeth and claws to threaten staff into line." She said letting her teeth lengthen and grinning broadly at him. She'd never had to use them, of course, but she wanted to make him laugh. These things were nasty enough to deal with without beating yourself up over it.

Davin laughs delightedly when she flashes her teeth, feeling lighter just by having her support. "I always just want t'send a car door flyin' at their face, but I'm too pretty t'go to jail."
He winks at her and picks at his food, smiling happily over at her. "I bet you're fun to work for."

"You really are." She said, sipping her drink.
She smiled at the compliment before smoothing her features. "No no. I'm reliably informed that i'm a monster." Lara said deadpan.

He blushes deeper and looks down at his drink. "An' is it bad that I'm super curious about these other employees of yours who allegedly think I'm cute?"

"Well.it's quiet on a Wednesday. Open mic on a Thursday. Hectic on a Friday and a Saturday. So take your pick." She said, spreading her hands. "And I won't tell secrets. But you'll probably be able to guess when they show up."

"Sounds like a solid plan." Lara said with a smile. In her pocket her phone chimed at her. She pulled it out and looked at it. "And now I have to get back there to deal with a moody supplier." She said with a sigh, picking up her bag and sliding off her stool gracefully. "I'll drop my car round in the morning?"
