tell the world that i'm coming home [open to all!]

Well, he's back.

It's the first time that he's stepped foot inside of Siren Cove since he left back in October. He and James ended things messily, and after everything else that happened, his grandmother's offer of a reprieve in Ireland was just too tempting to pass up. He owns the garage now, and left it in good hands when he left. His grandmother had given him a glamouring spell for Edan, designed to make his fox familiar look like a dog to a human eye, and that made it easier for Davin to travel with him.

He lifts the glamour once the cab that brought them from the airport drives away, and Edan yips before circling Davin's feet excitedly. His apartment smells a little stale, and he opens the windows to air it out. The place looks empty, so full of memories both good and bad, and he sighs as he stares at the coffeemaker. He could really use a cup.

"Dare we go t'Quill so soon?" Davin asks, looking down at Edan, who wags his huge fluffy tail in response. Davin's Irish accent is thick from all the time he spent there, and he knows that he'll most likely switch between English and Gaelic without even realizing it for awhile.

After dropping off his bags and changing into some fresh clothes, he checks his reflection in the mirror. He's changed since he left. The coven put him through physical and mental training, and he did a lot of exercising during his time there. While still lean, he's noticeably more muscular, and his skin is almost milky pale thanks to an Irish winter. There is stubble on his jaw and his hair, usually a mess, is combed back neatly and parted on the side in a way that his grandmother says makes him look like a movie star from back in the good ol' days.

He's wearing a dark green button down shirt over jeans, because it may be January in Maine but it feels practically balmy to Davin. He rolls up the sleeves to his elbows and looks down at the tattoo on his forearm. The roots go down to trail around his wrist, and as Davin watches, the edges seem to crackle blue with electricity. He smiles.

"C'mon, Edan. Time t'face the music." His fox lets out a happy chitter as he follows Davin down the steps, and he sends only Mira a brief text stating that he's arrived, and Quill bound. He's pretty sure that he missed Mira and Quill coffee most of all.

The streets are cool and quiet, and Davin feels a weird juxtaposition as he walks towards downtown. This is his home, the place that he's always loved, but he feels a little like a stranger here. Hopefully once he reconnects with people, that will change.

Hey, he's been all about change lately.

[ooc: davin's back, y'all! find him anywhere in or around quill. he's a more muscular, super pale, with stubble and a sweet new tattoo. his irish accent is noticeably much thicker. and also, his beloved familiar is at his side. come say hi! i really missed playing with everyone over here. ♥]

Brigid called a farewell to the baristas at Quill as she pushed through the door and out to the street, blowing on the to-go cup in her hands. She stopped and took a deep breath in of the crisp, cool and slightly coffee scented air and grinned. There was just something about winter that invigorated her.

About to cross the street and head back to work, she chanced a look up and nearly dropped her coffee.

"Jaysus Mary and Joseph. Look what the pixies dragged in."

The snow was thick outside, covering every inch of the sidewalks and the roads, waiting for the city's snow trucks to come through and clear things out again. That didn't stop the guys in the department from electing James to go on the morning run to Quill for coffees and food.

He tucked up the collar of his heavy coat higher around his neck trying to block away the harsh, biting wind, but the move didn't help. Luckily, a few minutes later, he ducked inside of the store brushing away snow flurries and trying to warm himself. He'd lived here all his life and should be use to the winters by now. But alas, he longed for the beach right about now, and he hated the beach.

There was a long line at the counter. The cold weather hadn't seemed to stop anyone else from the familiarity of Quill either. While he waited he stared up at the menu trying to remember everything he was supposed to order.

"Someone's come home full of blarney, hasn't he?" Brigid smiled wider as he approached, lowering to let Edan greet her with a sniff and a quick scratch. "Yer lookin good, Davin. Are ye feelin as good?"

She knew it hadn't been easy on him, could hear it in his voice, but there was a difference in him now. A light, teasing air she hadn't heard in a good while.

Mira jumps up at the text. Davin flew her out for her birthday, and -- much as she'd protested the money being spent -- she'd soaked up Ireland and the time alone with her best friend, as well as the time to catch up in person instead over oddly timed Skypes and snapchats.

But it's pushing a month since she got back, and while seeing him (and visiting another, ancient country) was amazing, the limited visit did make the inability to just hang out even more frustrating. So it shouldn't be surprising when she all but runs to Quill.

"Davin Kavanagh," she says, accusatory and hiding a smile, when she spots him. "How dare you get coffee before giving me a hug."

Snow's falling when Auryn heads to Quill for lunch. At work, most repairs have been recent transplants improperly winterizing their cars, and at home, snow-proofing his own property has been a process. Between magic and good old fashioned hard work, he thinks he might be ready to buckle down for the supposed storm they're getting in a few days.

It doesn't give him time to do much socializing, but the interactions he takes time for are things he doesn't object to. And it makes him appreciate people he chooses to be around. Quill's warm and inviting.

Maybe he's forgotten the day, then, or maybe he was never told, but he startles when he sees Davin. He looks -- older than the few months ago that Auryn saw him last. Definitely more grown into himself. The power in the room all but hums around him.

"Boss," he says with a little nod and a small smile. "I like the tattoo."

"And have ye learned then, feelin a bit more comfortable in th'skin yer wearin?" Brigid asked, knowing a thing or three about identity crises, having gone through something similar over the past year as she settled in to who and what she was now.

A brisk breeze fluttered the skirt of her sundress and she looked towards the doors of Quill. "Can I buy ye a cup? Feels more'n a bit off t'be practically standin in th'streets like strangers."

Well, this run-in wasn't something James expected this morning on his rather innocent trip into Quill to fetch lattes and muffins. Davin had been gone months; this wasn't something he expected at all. Maybe Davin had decided to move away or something. It wasn't like James would know. They were broken up after all.

Okay, that's not true. He knew enough to know Davin was in Ireland. He was a cop. He knew things. But he definitely didn't expect Davin to be returned today. If he'd known that he wouldn't have been here.

The attendant called Davin's name, and James sucked in a tight breath, surprised but aware it couldn't be anyone else. For a split second, he was uncertain about what he wanted to do. Breaking up with Davin had not been fun, and he didn't think he was over it. Considering his body was very alert and tense at the moment, this was probably an understatement. He should've just politely escaped through the exit. He turned around though, and found Davin standing a couple people back in the line looking trapped.

Now he had to say hello, anything else would've been too rude. Even for him. Clearing his throat, he nodded. "Hi, Davin," he said.

The customers between them are polite enough or maybe fearful enough to just walk around their reunion as there was probably an obvious weight to the looks between Davin, James, and the worker. James stepped away from the line because apparently he was set on punishing himself today. His chest squeezed inward just looking at Davin, for many reasons, the least of which being he just missed him. Even if they weren't speaking Davin's absence from Siren Cove had felt strange to him.

"I didn't realize you were back," he said, which if he'd known maybe he would have found a new coffeehouse to patron. Maybe he needed to do that anyway. He wasn't certain. He took a good look at Davin, hearing the difference in his voice, and seeing the same in his face.

All of this, he realized, was going to be quite difficult. He still cared too much for it not be. That's when he noticed the animal wrapped around Davin's leg. Edan. He hadn't understood the whole fox familiar thing, but Edan looked at him suspicious now. That kind of hurt.

"It's been awhile," he added.

"Half an hour, huh?"

James being at Quill was either bad luck or this town had a dark sense of humor. He had a handful of other exes, but Davin was a considerably different case. Seeing him here was quickly pulling everything---good and bad---back to the surface. That wasn't pleasant as he'd done a fair job of burying his emotions, while Davin was away.

Ironically by just working a whole hell of a lot. So, when Davin suggested they should sit, he hesitated. He should go to work, where he could concentrate on his job and hopefully forget Davin wasn't back in town.

Looking very handsome by the way.

He glanced all the empty tables then nodded. "Alright, " he said. This didn't sound like that good of an idea, but Davin suggested it. Gesturing for Davin to find a table he waited by the counter to order coffees and the muffin he wanted and since he knew what Davin liked something for him as well. He took a seat a few minutes later.

"How was your visit?" He knew Davin had family there, and he sincerely hoped he'd had a good trip.

James wasn't prepared for Davin's sudden reappearance. He hadn't spent enough time thinking about what it would mean when he returned, mainly because the subject hurt to think about. Should they be friends or strangers? Would the town even be big enough? It's not like he thought he was over Davin, but confronted with the guy now, he didn't think he was over much of any of it. He wasn't mad, just confused. And for a moment sitting there he felt uncomfortable. Another strange feeling, as he was always so comfortable with Davin.

But Davin's smile at the food did ease some of his anxiousness. He did what he could to push away his own discomfort, leaning over to take a careful sip from his coffee.

"Working, yes," James said, nodding, but he looked at Edan when he answered. He didn't exactly want to get into just how much he worked now nor why. Troubled thoughts aside, he shook his head a little. There was a fox sitting at this table. "Should I have gotten him something? Was that rude?" he asked glancing back at Davin with a smile.

James couldn't argue. He knew next to nothing about foxes and even less about magical ones. Or Edan wasn't magic the same way witches were, he didn't think, but he was definitely intelligently following their conversation with eager looking eyes. If James lived anywhere else he would've thought it impossible, but Edan was barely a blip on the strange-o-meter.

And that's why Davin asked what he did. "Nothing catastrophic, but if this town were too quiet it'd be wrong." And yet, the past few months had seemed quiet...

"Have you seen Mira yet?" he asked curious. Mira had always been nice to him, but she had no reason to talk to James much anymore.

Lena loved her coffee, but didn't love how jittery it made her, so she knew only to reach for it when absolutely necessary. Her first test coming up tonight, nerves already making her jittery, sounded like a great excuse for an even greater coffee.
Her mother was at home to talk her down anyway.

She barely even noticed the fox because hey, Siren Cove, until she noticed the fox, and she didn't knew what she wanted to do about it. No, that was just animal instinct. And that wasn't her and it wasn't doing anything.

With a deep breath, she fell in line behind it.

Auryn's smile widens a little at the extended hand. Davin had good reason to be angry with him, even if he doesn't agree that he was entirely in the wrong for the circumstances that led to it. But he'd much rather have his employer be on good terms with him, and more than that, he's a strong witch and even if they disagree there's much to learn, and perhaps to share.

He reaches out, giving him a firm handshake, and watches the lines glow with an intrigued eyebrow. "I could feel the energy shift around you," he says. He's seen spellwork in a lot of different things, but never tattooed, not in person.

"So, time well spent?" He has to admit he's a little jealous. He doesn't know anything about his Irish family, but that's where his father's family -- his witch family -- is from. So much lost that he'll never get to see..
